The Writer in the Bowl
I might never get enourmous high numbers of subscribers, but I will stay faithful.
I just read a wonderful article written by
about how you prepare your writing in the best possible way to approach the boost at Medium. He is a nominator, so I am sure, he knows what he is advising here.
I commented in notes
“This is great reading for optimizing the chance for a boost at Medium.
BUT - it is useful for EVERYTHING you write!”
And yes, I really believe that everybody can learn something about writing and good writing, also if you are not publishing at Medium.com.
His advise (10 points) is simple and shows, that with a little thinking, you can reach your audience in a much more connecting way, if you follow them.
I try to follow this writing stragtegy, but I don´ t always come in goal and I know, that my writing isn´ t allway so clear and informative, as I would like it to be.
Sometimes I have some kind of interesting story and I have a wonderful time delievering it. And at the end - I am stuck with the number 7 of his advise:
“Finish with a profound takeaway and a strong closing line!”
Yes - I would love to give a fantastic takeaway, hoping the reader has had a good time reading and something “strong” to remember. But a lot of my writing can´ t allways have this takeaway or the whole story is the takeaway? I understand the principle but I do struggle a lot with this.
I wonder if others do the same?
I think of my writing as art. I am like a fish in a bowl looking out at the world. My words written painting the picture I want to give the reader. And I think a short story CAN have a strong takeaway in a kind of moral. But I my way of thinking it must not be only in the last paragraph.
Do I hope the reader reads the whole of my text? YES I do, and I know, that is vain in the world of fast social-media. The scrolling society.
Call me old-school or old-fashioned at this.
But I write MY way. Take it or leave it. I know, I am “just” some little fish in the writing pond. I see it at the number of paying subscribers here. ZERO. But I will stick to my earlier promise, that subscribing to my newsletter and reading my texts will be free. And I stay faithful to my writing.
Take care, stay healthy, see you soon!

It's very true that you have to be true to your own writing style in order to succeed. Thanks for the mention Henrik!
